Lake Norman Real Estate
Lake Norman is a man made lake composed of 520 miles of shoreline
with the deepest point of 110 feet with the average depth of 33.5 feet. This man
made lake started construction in 1959 with completion in 1964 by Duke Power and
covers 32,510 acres at full pond. Lake Norman came about by damning the Catawba River
that spands North to South from the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina flowing
south into South Carolina. The lake provides both power and drinking water to Charlotte
and surrounding areas. Located on the North part of the Lake, in a town called Terrell,
is the Marshall Steam Station. At the opposite end of the lake in Huntersville, NC,
just 18 miles north of Charlotte,is the McGuire Nuclear Station.
The Lake Norman area is known for its prime Real Estate, but also the fun in the
sun laid back type atmosphere. There is just something about water that both attracts
and relaxes people. Located just outside of the hustle and bustle of the city, Charlotte;
Lake Norman is still a short commute. Interstate 77 running north and south is the
major thorrow fair on the eastern side of Lake Norman. Most people that live in the
Lake Norman area when asked where they live, they refer to which exit number they
live off of I-77. Of those exits, there are 5 key towns that make up Lake Norman;
Troutman (exits 42 & 45), Mooresville (exits 36 & 33), Davidson (exit 30), Cornelius
(exit 28), Huntersville (exits 25 & 23). Now on the western and northern side of
Lake Norman there are more rural towns: Denver (west), Sherrills Ford & Terrell (north),
and a small portion of Statesville (north). Lake Norman is also made up of 4 different
counties with different Tax Rates:Mecklenburg, Iredell, Cabarrus, & Lincoln.
